Police arrest dozens at Brooklyn Bridge

NEW YORK (AP) – Thousands of union members and Occupy Wall Street protesters are marching across the Brooklyn Bridge to protest joblessness and economic injustice.

The march kicked off from Manhattan’s Foley Square just before 6 p.m. Thursday following a day of protests around the country.

Organizers with the Service Employees International Union and progressive groups staged similar bridge marches in several cities in an event that was planned weeks ago, but happened to coincide with rallies marking two months since the start of the Occupy movement.

Police arrested at least two dozen people for trying to block traffic on the bridge roadway at the start of the march, but the main body of demonstrators was crossing without incident on a pedestrian walkway, escorted by police.
